Rock Ferry Orchard Pinot Rosé 2020
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Region: Wairau Plains, Marlborough, New Zealand
94/100 – Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
5 stars – Michael Cooper
Delightful salmon pink colour, this Rosé is made from Pinot Noir grapes exhibiting cherry & strawberry notes made in a dry style with a refreshingly crisp finish.
Taking a modern approach on tradition, making authentic wine is very important to them, as well as making the best wines possible. They try and pick grapes on ‘fruit’ days in accordance with the biodynamic calendar and find this works with the rhythm of nature and makes better wine. They allow natural yeasts the ability to do their thing wherever possible and use sulfur sparingly and bottling with minimal fining and filtration.
The Pinot Noir Clones Abel, 777 and 5 were machine harvested from the Orchard vineyard. The fruit was skin contacted for 3 hours then pressed. The free run juice only was collected and settled overnight before being racked clear to ferment. Following a long cool ferment the wins was racked with light lees for maturation for 3 months before bottling.
